At Laurel Highlands Workforce & Opportunity Center (LHWOC), our Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) Program prepares you for a rewarding and in-demand role in today’s healthcare settings. You’ll gain hands-on experience in both patient care and medical office procedures, with a strong focus on Electronic Health Records (EHR)—a vital skill in modern healthcare.


What You’ll Learn

Get the skills employers are looking for:

  • Taking vital signs and assisting with patient exams

  • Administering injections and drawing blood (phlebotomy)

  • Performing EKGs

  • Managing Electronic Health Records (EHR)

  • Scheduling appointments and handling front office tasks

You’ll be ready to work in:

  • Physician offices

  • Urgent care centers

  • Outpatient clinics

  • Specialty practices


Program Snapshot

  • Program Length: 7-months (24 weeks of class + 4-week externship)

  • Total Hours: 848 clock hours

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM

  • Externship: 4-weeks at a local healthcare facility (schedule varies)


Real-World Experience

You will complete a 4-week externship with one of our trusted partners, including UPMC and Independence Health System. This hands-on training gives you the opportunity to apply your skills in a real medical environment.

Requirements: Before starting your externship, you’ll need a physical exam, a two-step TB test, proof of immunizations, and a drug screening.


Certification Opportunity

After successfully completing the program, you may be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification exam and become a certified Clinical Medical Assistant.
